Our brief was to develop a digital platform that seamlessly mixed content sources, particularly video, and offered a fan first experience for followers of the Gallagher Premiership.

We’re delighted to continue to work closely with the team at Premiership Rugby.

The new site is packed full of features and functionality for fans and yet offers a slick, and crucially, a fast loading browsing experience. The website is Premiership Rugby’s most flexible owned channel to date and sits at the heart of how they tell the story of their league through digital.

We’re looking forward to continuing to work with the team at Premiership Rugby to further develop the platform. We’ve been partners for a long time but together we’re continually innovating. Sotic’s technology stack, combined with our knowledge of digital sport, means that we’re ideally placed to innovate and adapt as new trends emerge.

New look and cutting-edge website build technology

The site has a brand new look and has been designed and built mobile-first to reflect how fans are consuming its content.

It utilises a headless CMS architecture which enables fast content delivery and the ability to push content to any device or channel such as a website, app, or even in future, a wearable device.

Premiership Rugby have complete control over how and where content appears with a flexible solution which will lend itself to integration with new technology and innovations in the future.

An enhanced video experience

The new site aggregates many different content types to tell the story of Premiership Rugby’s competitions and to excite fans. With the appetite for video consumption showing no signs of slowing down, the new website seamlessly integrates Premiership Rugby video from the StreamAMG platform with autoplay functionality amongst news, previews, reports, photo galleries and more.

Fan-first experience

The Premiership Rugby website is an important touchpoint for fans in the lead up to each round of the competition, however with 12 clubs taking part in the marque Gallagher Premiership competition, our focus was to help Premiership Rugby deliver a more tailored experience on the site for each fan.

Fans are able to select their favourite club which means that whether they support Gloucester Rugby, Sale Sharks or any of the other 10 teams in the competition, they will see their club’s news, fixtures and results highlighted. The club customisation will pave the way for further personalisation enhancements planned for the future.

Fans are also led to relevant content through the website’s tagging functionality which flags other relevant or related news depending on the content they were browsing

Live Matchcentre

Topped by a liveblog which brings fans a flavour from all the games taking place each weekend and blends user generated content with live updates and imagery from around the grounds, the very popular Premiership Rugby matchcentre remains the go-to destination for fans whether they’re looking for a second screen experience with live statistical analysis or are catching up after the final whistle.

The matchcentre provides a full overview of each round of fixtures and fans can drill down into detailed match reviews, reports, pre, post and live in-game stats for each fixture as well as all the related news and media.

Partner Activation

The site also offers Premiership Rugby the opportunity to showcase their partners, with options for branded content, integration with the Google Ad Manager platform and the ability to promote partners through a flexible interactive polling and quizzing platform (such as the Citizen Try of the Round competition).
